Network Enabled Capability (NEC) is at the heart of defence transformation for the UK and many other nations. Its realisation demands that armed forces work in new ways, and that government and industry adopt new 
approaches to the design, acquisition, and management of the systems that support military capability. Through consideration of the operational requirements of NEC and the needs of long term capability planning, NECTISE defined, developed and demonstrated approaches to system of systems engineering needed to support NEC.
Through improved interoperability and situational awareness, NEC enhances military agility to achieve better-informed decisions and more timely action leading to more precise effects. Similarly, improvements in supply chain agility ensure that deployed systems may be developed more flexibly to meet the demands of a rapidly changing threat.
NECTISE was an £4M research programme jointly sponsored by EPSRC and BAE Systems; it was delivered by a consortium of ten UK universities, led by Loughborough.
